Billy Neill Country Park

The sun was shining yet again today and the heat was almost unbearable by Northern Irish standards, nevertheless, I soldiered on and made may way around Billy Neill Country Park near Comber which proved worthwhile in the end. I was pleasantly surprised to see Sedge Warblers in the reeds at both sides of the pond - this is the first time I have seen them here, mind you it has been a few years since I have visited with birds in mind. The pond also had a Grey Heron along with the resident Mute Swan and some Gadwall and Moorhen. Plenty of Hirundines were also skimming along its surface and flying overhead, all three residents were present: Swallows, House Martins and Sand Martins. They were also joined by Swifts. Other birds included Chaffinches, Goldfinches Wrens, Robins, Willow Warblers, Long-Tailed Tits, Reed Buntings and a Buzzard. On the way back to the car, the day was rounded off superbly by a pair of Dippers catching flies in a shaded part of the river. Good day out, enjoy the photos!
